New Year, New Adventures
Garret & I went skiing right after Christmas. He's been skiing since he was knee high to a grasshopper. On the other hand, I, at 24 years old, could've best been described as baby-giraffe-on-skis. After a half-dozen tumbles (at least) and a couple hours of psyching myself out, Garret finally looked at me and said, "Erin. The skis are on YOUR feet. YOU control them. Quit letting them control you."I repeated that mantra over and over in my head, and you know what? It worked! And as I sit here today, I can't help but think that's a little like life. We look down that steep slope, see that big ole to-do list, that packed schedule and just try to stay on our skis until we inevitably take a tumble when we just can't do it anymore. That was 2016 for me.But you know what? The skis are on OUR feet. While we can't control what the slope looks like, we can control the speed. We can say no. We can run our schedule rather than letting our schedule run us. We can live each day intentionally.Up until the last few years, when the slopes got steeper, my NYE party was always me + my notebook + my childhood bedroom, reflecting on the previous year and making goals and plans for the next year. I loved being a nerd. ???? Though my NYEs have been considerably "cooler" the last few years, I think it's time for more me + my goal notebook dates. It's time for more intentional living. So let's take some time today to sit down & write down all that we strive to do in 2017. Like skiing, it's a whole lot better when we're running life instead of it running us. ❤️
